McMahon Gridders Crushed Warde, 62-20, to Hand Eagles Fifth Straight Loss 43 Years Ago Today

Abraham Weldon, a flashy, twisting back from McMahon, scored five touchdowns and carried the football for 214 yards to help his team trounce the Andrew Warde Crimson Eagles, 62-20, Monday, November 10, 1969.

The strong cold wind and intermittent rain on the field kept the passes short and made the pigskin tough to hold by causing several fumbles. It was the fifth loss in a row for the Crimson Eagles after three straight wins to start the season. The Senators improved to 6-2 with the victory.

Other standouts for McMahon included Ken Correnty, who scored twice and carried for 114 yards, Lloyd Fuller, who hit paydirt once and lugged the ball for 192 yards, and signal-caller Mark Kreymbourg, who scored once. Kreymbourg's three completed passes for 34 yards and a touchdown gave the Senators a total offense of 586 yards for the game.

Warde, which could not score until the second half, hit paydirt twice on passes from quarterback Chico Rodriguez to Dave Abraham, covering 11 and 12 yards, and one to Steve Duboys for 27 yards. Despite the wind, Rodriguez connected on 13 of 22 passes for 136 yards.

Four of the five Senators' scores in the first half were the result of Warde mistakes, including three fumbles and an intercepted pass. The most spectacular run came three plays after a fumble when Fuller broke off guard and scampered 72 yards for a touchdown. Correnty dashed 36 yards through the center of the Warde line after the Crumson Eagles fumbled the kickoff.

McMahon, led by Kreymbourg, appeared to run at the Warde line almost at will and took a 34-0 lead at halftime. After the intermission, the Eagles appeared to be slightly more inspired.
